In a protest against Israel’s 50-day operation against Hamas and other terror operatives in the Gaza Strip, a senior member of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood decried the kingdom’s diplomatic relations with the Jewish state, and offered his and the Jordanian people’s unwavering support for Palestinian “resistance” fighters who wage “jihad” against IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians.

Speaking to a crowd of hundreds of protesters on August 29, Himam Said, the general supervisor of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood, said that the Hashemite Kingdom’s population, unlike its political leaders, backed the Palestinians in their struggle to defeat the state of Israel.

“I have a message to official Jordan,” the Brotherhood representative said, according to a translation provided Thursday by MEMRI, the Middle East Media Research Institute, apparently addressing Jordanian diplomats and members of parliament.

“This message is not directed at the people of Jordan, for the people of Jordan are here,” he continued, gesturing at the masses of people who had gathered at the scene.

“The entire population of Jordan supports the resistance and the jihad, the tribes as well as the refugee camps, from north to south.”

Said went on to lead the crowd in a chant, praising Hamas leaders Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Mashaal, as the demonstrators in the plaza waved flags of the Gaza-based terror group.

“I say to official Jordan, your ties with the Jews are hopeless, and the partner of the hopeless is hopeless too,” Said continued.

“The Jews will be gone, and if you want to survive, you must remain with the people, with the resistance, with the jihad. It is not your place, nor anybody else’s, to surrender and support partnership with the Jews,” the Muslim Brotherhood official stressed.

Said ended his remarks with harsh criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose hands, Said maintained, had “been soiled with the blood of Palestinian children.”

“What has Netanyahu brought to Amman?” Said cried.

“Oh, Jordanian people, say no to Netanyahu in Amman! Say no to ties between Jordan and the Jews! Say no to the embassy of the Jews in Amman!”

Shortly before the August 29 rally, Jordanian media reported that a secret meeting between Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had taken place in Amman days earlier, ahead of Israel and Hamas agreeing on an open-ended ceasefire to end the operation in the Gaza Strip.

Days later, on September 3, Israel signed a memorandum of understanding with Jordan, under which it will supply the Hashemite Kingdom with $15 billion worth of natural gas from its Leviathan energy field over 15 years. The new deal is the largest collaboration with Jordan to date, and will make Israel its chief supplier.

Israel launched Operation Protective Edge on July 8 in an effort to halt terrorist rocket fire from the Gaza Strip at Israeli towns and to destroy a network of tunnels, dug under the border by Hamas, that were used to launch deadly attacks inside Israel.
